Eric T. Ikeda, OD, FCOVD, DPNAP
Dr. Eric T. Ikeda has been in private practice in Bellflower since 1991. He earned his Bachelor's of Science in Biochemistry from the University of California in Riverside in 1982 and completed his Doctor of Optometry at the Southern California College of Optometry in 1986. Dr. Ikeda became a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (FCOVD) in 1992. He obtained his Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents (TPA) certification in 1996 and completed Level I of the Clinical Skills Building Program of the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association in 1999. He was inducted into the National Academies of Practice (Optometry Academy) in 2006.
Besides providing primary family vision care, Dr. Ikeda specializes in the evaluation and treatment of both children and adults with developmental disabilities and acquired visual deficits. He is currently on clinical staff at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center (Downey) and is director of the Neuro-Optometry Clinic at Casa Colina Rehabilitation Hospital (Pomona). He serves as a consultant for Winways Transitional Living Center in Orange, Care Meridian, Village Healthcare Centers and the Transitional Rehabilitation Services of Long Beach. Dr. Ikeda also consults with several local school districts for children with visually-related learning disabilities and children with special needs (autism, etc.). Dr. Ikeda is immediate past-president for the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association, International. He has also lectured for American Society of Neurorehabilitation, American Occupational Therapy Association, Rancho Los Amigos Hospital and the NORA annual conference, and has provided numerous workshops, and in-services. He is past president of the San Gabriel Valley Optometric Society and has served on the Rio Hondo Optometric Society board.
Dr. Ikeda is active in community service. He is past president of the Bellflower Noon Lions Club and remains active in all its functions. He currently serves as chairman of the Cerritos College Foundation. Dr. Ikeda had served on the Bellflower Chamber of Commerce board and is past president for Family Service of Long Beach. He continues to participate in his church, recently serving as camp director of the Pacific Coast Japanese Free Methodist Conference family camp. He enjoys serving as assistant Scoutmaster with his son’s Boy Scout Troop 1814, especially after having earned the rank of Eagle Scout in his youth. Dr. Ikeda enjoys fresh water and deep-sea fishing and other outings and golfing with his family and friends.
Sarah E. Cole, OD
Dr. Sarah E. Cole joined Optometric Vision Care Associates, Inc. in 2009. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Sciences,with an emphasis in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior, from the University of California in Davis in 2001. After working for three years at the Center for Biostabilization she enrolled at the Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO). She graduated from SCCO in 2008 with her Doctor of Optometry degree Magna Cum Laude. After graduating she completed a one-year residency program in Low Vision at the Center for the Partially Sighted, located in West Los Angeles and Tarzana.
As well as providing primary vision care to patients of all ages, Dr. Cole specializes in Low Vision, Neuro-Optometry and Ocular Disease. She also works with Dr. Ikeda as a clinical staff member at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Downey. She has spoken at various senior and rehabilitation facilities about Low Vision and enjoys teaching the community about the numerous treatment options that aid people with limited vision.
Dr. Cole is a member of the American Optometric Association,California Optometric Association, Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association, and American Academy of Optometry, of which she is currently a candidate for a Fellow (FAAO).
Dr. Cole enjoys baking, knitting, attending music and sporting events,and entertaining her friends and family.
Michael M. King, OD, FCOVD
Dr. Michael M. King grew up in Downey, California, graduated from Downey High School in 1956, and then entered USC as a mechanical engineering major. In 1960, he changed majors and entered the old Los Angeles College of Optometry on the USC campus. He earned his Doctor of Optometry in 1963 and started a small practice in Bellflower in October of that same year.
During his first years in practice, he became interested in vision development and vision therapy and subsequently earned a Fellowship in the College of Optometrists in Vision Development in 1971. For many years he devoted a large portion of his practice to children’s vision and to the evaluation and treatment of children with visually-related learning disabilities. He was a Field Inspector for the Los Angeles County DPSS and a civilian consultant to the 7th Army Examination and Entrance Station. He was reissued an OD degree from the new Southern California College of Optometry in 1976. He earned his DPA certificate in 1979, his first National Board of Examiners Therapeutic Agents certificate in 1990, and his second NBEO TPA in 1996.
Dr. King has been involved in professional affairs serving through the various chair positions of our local Rio Hondo Optometric Society and as President in 1969. He served the California Optometric Association Board of Trustees as Chairman of the President’s Council 11 times and was invited to chair a similar program for the AOA National Convention in 1973.
Dr. King has served on numerous community projects and has been on the Los Cerritos YMCA Board of Managers since 1964 in many capacities. He was Board Chairman in 1984-1985 and served on the YMCA Board of Greater Long Beach as well.
In 1978, Dr. King and Dr. James L. Cox (known to many patients in this practice) combined their two practices into Cox-King Optometry. Dr. King built our current building in 1979. Dr. Ikeda joined them in 1991 and the three practiced together as Cox-King-Ikeda Optometry until Dr. Cox retired in 2005.
Dr. King enjoys time with his grandkids, an occasional track day at Willow Springs, working Sunday mornings with Janet as greeters at their church and his new status as a part-time employee.
